Porter's 5 Forces states that one of the 5 defining factors of competition is the threat of new market entrants; the UK supermarket sector was widely used as a live example of high barriers to market entry. Well that has been blown apart with Aldi and Lidl taking the sector by storm in the last 10 years, barriers to entry may as well have not existed.
