Concerns over Asda’s merger



ASDA’S proposed £14billion merger with Sainsbury’s could lead to higher prices or a worse quality of service in 463 local areas, competition watchdogs warned. The Competition and Markets Authority, which last week referred the deal for an in-depth investigation, said there is a “realistic prospect” of a substantial lessening of competition in each of the areas where the rivals’ stores overlap.
