THE pound is holding steady against the euro today as Italy continues to remain at loggerheads with European Union chiefs over its controversial budget plan. Italian government officials have been forced to fend off criticism from Brussels and market pressure after unveiling a deficit target of 2.4 percent of gross domestic product next year.
