Dogecoin price skyrockets to an all-time high as Elon Musk drives DOGE frenzy with memes

"These events have led to a new wave of interest in cryptocurrency in general, and as a popular “meme” cryptocurrency, Dogecoin seems to have benefitted."

Dogecoin was born in 2013 as an online joke of sorts, created around the popular meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog.

The token's creators, software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmerin, had no idea at the time just how popular DOGE would become.

To put dogecoin's recent performance into perspective, just two years ago, the token was being sold for around £0.0014 ($0.0019).

Today (April 14) dogecoin's are selling for 7,000 percent more.
