Britain's booming! Stats show 800,000 new businesses launched during Covid

Research has found the huge number of new firms have been launched during the pandemic with half (52 percent) relying on technology and social media to run their business and sell goods online. The findings from Plusnet say that technology has enabled 51 percent of small businesses to improve their range of products and 40 percent said it had allowed them to upgrade their customer experience.

Social media has been a big player in the small business surge as bosses use apps like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and eBay to promote their business.

A total of 48 percent of business leaders said that the majority of customers discover their services online and Plusnet’s research found that social media marketing was the number one thing small business leaders wished they had known more about when they started.

Nick Silverwood, head of business at Plusnet said: “We are taking our hat off to the incredible businesses launched over the last year, who have been able to adapt to using technology more than ever before.

“Being from Yorkshire, we know all about courage, grit and determination and that is why we are recognising the many thousands of businesses that took the plunge in lockdown by rewarding them with a unique That’ll Do Star.
